Quote of the Week
Charity (sadaqah) is due upon every joint of a person on every day that the sun rises. Administering justice between two people is an act of charity; and to help a man concerning his riding beast by helping him on to it or lifting his luggage on to it is an act of charity; a good word is charity; and every step which you take to prayer is charity; and removing that which is harmful from the road is charity." Reported by al-Bukharee (Eng. Trans. 4/146/no.232)

CHARITY

Hardship and Infrastructure Relief:

When disaster strikes, apart from the human misery caused by hardship, the infrastructure upon which the locals rely is often damaged beyond reasonable repair. Furthermore, a lack of this basic infrastructure is key to exacerbating the human misery.

Roads, homes and other essential buildings are often devastated and although the human suffering and hardship can be alleviated, the infrastructure needs to be reinstated to ensure a future for the affected region.

Al-Khair Foundation recognises this twin approach to aid and although it provides “disaster relief” immediately, it evaluates the longer term hardship and infrastructure relief that will be required for effective recovery without long-term reliance on outside aid.

Furthermore, Al-Khair Foundation does not seek to duplicate the aid efforts of other agencies. The Foundation identifies genuine gaps in aid and looks to rectify these. In Kashmir, for example, widows are provided with periodic aid in an attempt to rehabilitate them with their dignity intact. Four Al-Khair affiliated schools have been built for orphans and the Foundation offers sponsorship schemes to allow individuals a conduit to helping orphans.
